Mumbai cyber police dismantled an online syndicate that was distributing malicious APK files disguised as RTO challan documents. The operation targeted the download sites and seized the software used to spread malware.

Mumbai cyber police carried out a coordinated raid on an online syndicate that had been distributing malicious APK files under the guise of official RTO challan documents. The files were marketed as legitimate traffic violation notices, enticing users to download and install them on their smartphones.

Investigators traced the distribution network to several dark‑web sites and seized the malware‑laden applications. The software was designed to steal personal data, hijack device functions, and create a backdoor for further attacks.

Authorities warned that unsuspecting motorists could be exposed to identity theft and financial fraud if they installed the counterfeit challans. The operation is part of a broader effort to curb cybercrime targeting everyday citizens.

The Mumbai cyber police spokesperson said the team will continue monitoring related sites and will cooperate with other law‑enforcement agencies to prevent future incidents.
