Meteorological agencies warn of multiple weather systems converging over India, forecast heavy rainfall and hailstorms nationwide on Friday.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) released a weather alert on Thursday, highlighting the convergence of several low‑pressure systems that will bring heavy rainfall and hail across large parts of the country on Friday.
The forecast indicates that northern, central and eastern regions will experience rainfall of 50–100 mm, while parts of the north, including the Himalayan foothills, may see hailstones up to 2 cm in diameter. The systems are expected to move from the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea, intensifying as they approach the subcontinent.
Transport authorities have warned of possible road and rail disruptions, and farmers in affected districts are advised to secure livestock and protect crops. Power utilities have also been alerted to the risk of downed lines.
The IMD urges residents to stay updated through local weather bulletins and to take precautionary measures such as avoiding waterlogged areas and securing outdoor equipment.
