The Madhya Pradesh High Court has set aside the order to modify the birthdate of the Maheshwar municipality’s Chief Medical Officer and has granted relief to the young woman who went viral selling rudraksha beads at the Mahakumbh.

The Madhya Pradesh High Court has nullified the directive that sought to alter the official birthdate of the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Maheshwar municipality. In the same judgment, the court granted relief to a young woman, popularly known as Monalisa, who became a viral sensation after selling rudraksha bead strings at the Mahakumbh pilgrimage.

The birthdate dispute arose when authorities attempted to change the CMO’s recorded date of birth, a move that was linked to the broader controversy surrounding the viral seller. The court found the order to be without proper legal basis and therefore rescinded it.

Further, the bench instructed that the case involving the young seller be reopened for a fresh hearing, ensuring that she receives a full opportunity to present her side before a final decision is rendered.

Legal experts noted that the ruling underscores the judiciary’s role in checking arbitrary administrative actions and protecting individual rights, especially in high‑profile public controversies.
