The Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education will eliminate multiple‑choice options for two‑mark questions in class 9‑12 exams starting the 2026‑27 academic year, while retaining options for other items.
The Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education (MPBSE) announced a revision to its internal choice policy that will take effect from the 2026‑27 academic session. Under the new rule, questions carrying two marks in the board examinations for classes nine to twelve will no longer be presented with multiple‑choice options.
Previously, the internal choice format allowed candidates to select the correct answer from four alternatives for most questions, including those worth two marks. The board’s circular now specifies that only higher‑value questions will retain the option‑based format, while two‑mark items will require a short, descriptive answer.
The change aims to encourage deeper conceptual understanding and reduce reliance on rote memorisation. MPBSE officials indicated that textbooks and sample papers will be updated accordingly, and schools are expected to adjust their teaching methods to align with the new assessment structure.
