A mother and her 8‑year‑old son slipped into deep water while fording the Tamasa River in Bharoli village, Madhya Pradesh; the child died despite rescue efforts and the mother remains in intensive care.
While heading to their fields in Bharoli village of Maher tehsil, a mother attempted to cross the Tamasa River with her 8‑year‑old son tied to her back. The river’s current was stronger than expected and both were swept into deep water.
Local villagers who heard the splash rushed to the spot and managed to pull the pair out. The child, identified as Saurabh, was taken to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
The mother sustained serious injuries and was admitted to the intensive care unit of the same hospital for further treatment. Authorities have been notified and are reviewing safety measures at river crossing points in the area.
