The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation has announced a series of new surveys aimed at enhancing the reliability of key economic indicators.

The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) has unveiled plans to conduct a set of new surveys designed to improve the accuracy of national economic data. These surveys will focus on areas such as employment, industrial output, and consumer spending, which are critical for policy formulation.

According to officials, the revamped data collection methods will incorporate advanced statistical techniques and real‑time data capture to reduce lag and enhance precision. The initiative is expected to provide a more granular view of the economy, helping lawmakers and businesses make better-informed decisions.

Saurabh Garg, a senior officer at MoSPI, emphasized that the surveys will address gaps in existing data sets and align India’s statistical framework with international best practices. He added that the first round of surveys is slated to begin next month, with preliminary results to be released within six months.

The Ministry’s move comes amid growing demand for reliable economic metrics, especially as the country navigates post‑pandemic recovery and aims to meet long‑term growth targets.
