Monsoon retreats in Rajasthan as only four districts record above‑normal rainfall

The southwest monsoon has weakened across Rajasthan, with just four districts receiving above‑normal precipitation so far, and a new spell of rain expected to start soon.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said the southwest monsoon has lost momentum over Rajasthan, leaving most parts of the state with rainfall below the seasonal average. Monitoring stations across the region recorded a marked decline in precipitation during the last week, prompting officials to label the current phase as a weakening spell.
Out of the 33 districts in Rajasthan, only four have registered above‑normal rainfall to date. These districts have seen sporadic showers that pushed their totals above the climatological norm, while the remaining districts continue to experience dry conditions.
IMD forecasters anticipate a fresh spell of monsoon activity to begin later this week, bringing moderate to heavy rain to the affected areas. The department has issued advisory notices to local authorities, urging them to prepare for possible waterlogging and to keep agricultural advisories updated.
The delayed and uneven distribution of rain could impact sowing schedules for kharif crops, especially in districts that have yet to receive adequate moisture. Farmers are being advised to adopt water‑conserving practices and to stay tuned to official weather updates.
