Monsoon in Himachal Pradesh kills 224, damages exceed Rs 1,121 crore in 55 days

The monsoon that has battered Himachal Pradesh over the past 55 days has resulted in 224 deaths and caused property and agricultural losses estimated at over Rs 1,121 crore.
The state disaster management authority said that the monsoon that began in early June has claimed 224 lives across several districts of Himachal Pradesh in just 55 days. Most of the fatalities occurred in remote hill areas where landslides and flash floods struck overnight.
Economic assessments released by the Himachal Pradesh government put the total damage at more than Rs 1,121 crore. The figure includes destroyed homes, washed‑away roads, damaged irrigation canals and extensive loss to horticultural crops such as apples and plums.
Rescue teams from the state police, the National Disaster Response Force and the Indian Army have been deployed to the hardest hit zones. Temporary relief camps have been set up, and authorities are distributing food packets and emergency medical kits to displaced families.
Officials warned that the region remains vulnerable as more rain is forecast for the coming week. They urged residents to stay clear of riverbanks, avoid travelling on mountain roads, and cooperate with evacuation orders.
