Authorities have shut a pedestrian crossing on a railway line in Mohali, prompting local residents to voice opposition.
Mohali officials have ordered the closure of a pedestrian crossing that ran across a railway track, citing operational reasons. The decision was implemented early this week, cutting off a long‑used footpath for residents of nearby villages.
Local villagers gathered near the site to express their dissatisfaction, arguing that the closure disrupts daily commutes and forces them to take longer, less safe routes. They voiced concerns that the new detour could increase travel time and expose pedestrians to traffic hazards.
The protest remained peaceful, with community members urging authorities to reconsider or provide an alternative crossing. No official statement on a timeline for reopening or a replacement facility was released at the time of reporting.
