Market traders in Mohali have appealed to authorities for improved infrastructure and heightened security measures as festivals approach.
Mohali, Punjab – A group of traders operating in the city’s bustling markets convened on Monday to press local officials for upgraded facilities and stronger security ahead of the upcoming festive period. The merchants highlighted issues such as inadequate lighting, insufficient sanitation, and limited crowd‑control arrangements that they say hamper smooth commercial activity.
The demand comes as major festivals like Diwali and Gurpurab draw nearer, periods when footfall in Mohali’s commercial hubs traditionally spikes. Traders warned that without prompt improvements, both shoppers and vendors could face heightened risks of accidents, theft, and health hazards.
City officials from the municipal corporation and the Punjab Police were briefed on the concerns. While no final decision has been announced, authorities indicated that they would review the requests and explore short‑term measures, including additional police patrols and temporary infrastructure upgrades, before the festival rush begins.
