A new modular operation theatre was inaugurated at Tawang District Hospital in Arunachal Pradesh, boosting surgical capacity in the remote hill district.
Tawang District Hospital in Arunachal Pradesh has opened a state‑of‑the‑art modular operation theatre, officials said. The prefabricated facility is designed to provide a fully equipped surgical suite that can be assembled quickly and is suited to the challenging terrain of the region.
The inauguration marks a significant upgrade to the hospital’s infrastructure, which previously relied on limited operating rooms. Health administrators highlighted that the new theatre will enable a broader range of procedures to be performed locally, reducing the need for patients to travel to distant urban centres.
Local health officials noted that the modular design allows for easier maintenance and future expansion, addressing long‑standing gaps in surgical services for the tribal and mountain communities of Tawang.
The addition is part of a broader effort by state and central health agencies to strengthen medical facilities in India's northeastern states, aiming to improve accessibility and outcomes for residents in remote areas.
The ceremony was attended by hospital staff and regional health representatives, who expressed optimism that the new operation theatre will enhance emergency response capabilities and overall patient care in the district.
