A mob assaulted the accused in the RG Kar rape‑murder case as he stepped out of a police station, according to reports.
The accused in the high‑profile RG Kar rape‑murder case was physically assaulted by a crowd as he emerged from a police station. Eyewitnesses said the mob surrounded the suspect and began beating him with sticks and stones.
The incident unfolded amid heightened public anger over the alleged crime, which has been widely covered in the media. While the accused remains in police custody, the sudden surge of violence outside the station caught officers off guard.
Police personnel intervened to separate the mob and provide first‑aid to the suspect. The injured man was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, and the authorities have launched an inquiry into the assault on a detainee.
Law enforcement officials emphasized that any form of mob justice undermines the rule of law and warned that those involved in the attack could face separate criminal charges.
