The decision is part of the state's preparation for the upcoming Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations, aiming to provide orderly and safe venues for devotees.
Officials said the sites were chosen based on accessibility, water‑body suitability and the capacity to handle large gatherings. By covering urban, suburban and rural zones, the MMC hopes to distribute footfall evenly and reduce congestion at any single location.
The committee will work closely with local police, municipal workers and environmental agencies to manage traffic, crowd control and waste disposal at each centre. Devotees are being urged to follow prescribed guidelines to minimise pollution of water bodies.
