The Mizoram state government announced plans to finish the 2027 national census ahead of all other states.

Mizoram's administration has formally stated its intention to be the first Indian state to complete the 2027 national census, aiming to set a benchmark for timely data collection across the country. The decision was communicated through an official press release that highlighted the state's commitment to accurate demographic profiling.
State officials explained that early completion will enable more precise allocation of resources, improve planning for health, education and infrastructure projects, and provide a clearer picture of migration trends in the region.
The government plans to deploy additional enumerators, use digital data‑capture tools, and coordinate closely with the Office of the Registrar General and Census Commissioner. A phased schedule has been drafted to cover remote villages and urban areas within the stipulated timeframe.
Authorities anticipate that Mizoram's proactive approach will assist the central government in consolidating census data faster, potentially influencing policy decisions at the national level.
The move reflects a broader push by several states to modernise census operations, but Mizoram aims to lead by completing its share well before the nationwide deadline.
