Mizoram Targets to Finish 2027 Census Ahead of All Indian States

Mizoram’s state administration said it will aim to finish its share of the 2027 Census of India ahead of the nationwide schedule. The move is intended to provide early demographic data that can aid planning for development programmes and resource allocation in the hilly state. Officials have outlined a rapid field‑operation plan that includes mobilising local enumerators and leveraging digital data‑collection tools. The state will coordinate closely with the Office of the Registrar General and Census Commissioner, which oversees the decennial census across the country. If successful, Mizoram will become the first Indian state to submit its complete census report for 2027, setting a benchmark for other regions.
