The under‑ground metro station work in Indore’s Chhota Ganpati area has led to a road closure, disrupting shops just as Diwali shoppers are expected to flood the market.
Indore’s municipal authorities have begun excavation for an underground metro station in the Chhota Ganpati neighbourhood, sealing the main road that serves dozens of small shops. The closure, which started this week, coincides with the peak Diwali shopping period, when footfall in local markets traditionally surges.
Shop owners in the area reported a sharp drop in customer traffic and warned that the interruption could affect their earnings during the lucrative festival season. They have appealed to the metro project team to expedite work or provide alternative access routes.
Metro officials said the road blockage is a temporary measure required for safe construction and that the project, part of the city’s larger rapid‑transit plan, will ultimately improve connectivity for commuters and boost commercial activity in the long run.
