Memorandum to District In-charge Minister Demanding Re-inclusion of Ganadhal–Somanamaradi Villages in Devadurga Taluk

Villagers demand continuation under Jalahalli Hobli; warn of massive protest on October 12

Raichur, October 7: Villagers on Wednesday submitted a memorandum to District In-charge Minister Dr. Ajay Singh at the Raichur Deputy Commissioner’s office, urging the government to reconsider the inclusion of villages under Ganadhal and Somanamaradi Gram Panchayats in Arakera Taluk and retain them under Devadurga Taluk and Jalahalli Hobli.

During the formation of Arakera Taluk in Raichur district, Kamaladinni, Kakkaladoddi and Ganadhal villages under Ganadhal Gram Panchayat, and Somanamaradi, Bogiramanagund, Sampatrayanadoddi and Maikaladoddi villages under Somanamaradi Gram Panchayat were included in Arakera Taluk.

The villagers stated in their memorandum that this decision has caused difficulties in accessing administrative services and other public facilities.

According to the memorandum, the distance from Arakera Taluk headquarters is approximately 45 km from Kamaladinni, 46 km from Kakkaladoddi, 50 km from Ganadhal, 47 km from Bogiramanagund, 45 km from Maikaladoddi, 46 km from Somanamaradi and 51 km from Sampatrayanadoddi.

In contrast, Jalahalli Hobli headquarters is much closer to these villages. Kamaladinni is around 5 km away, Kakkaladoddi 5.5 km, Ganadhal 9 km, Bogiramanagund 7 km, Somanamaradi 6 km, Sampatrayanadoddi 9 km and Maikaladoddi about 4.5 km away.

The villagers pointed out that Jalahalli has government and private degree colleges, pre-university colleges and other educational facilities. The town also provides better access to healthcare, transportation, trade and other public services. Its proximity would particularly benefit students from these rural areas seeking higher education, they said.

Therefore, the villagers urged the government to examine Section 4(2)(a) of the Karnataka Gram Swaraj and Panchayat Raj Act, 1993, along with the relevant provisions of the Karnataka Land Revenue Act, and officially retain the above-mentioned villages under Jalahalli Hobli of Devadurga Taluk.

They also requested the government to appoint officials to obtain public opinion and, if necessary, visit the concerned villages to assess the ground realities.

Warning of Massive Protest on October 12

The villagers warned that if the government and concerned authorities fail to respond to the memorandum submitted on October 7 within four days, residents of the above-mentioned villages will take out a padayatra and stage a massive protest in front of the Jalahalli Nadakacheri/Tahsildar’s Office on October 12.
