The state’s youth development programme has enrolled 14,000 young people across 56 blocks, and Chief Minister Conrad Sangma announced plans for a larger rollout.
Meghalaya’s flagship youth programme, launched by the state government, has now registered 14,000 participants spread over 56 administrative blocks. The scheme aims to provide skill training, entrepreneurship support and employment assistance to the state’s young population.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, speaking at a recent press briefing, said the current outreach is only the first phase. He promised a more extensive initiative that will cover additional blocks and increase the number of beneficiaries, with a focus on rural and tribal areas.
State officials indicated that the expanded programme will seek greater collaboration with private sector partners and vocational institutes to enhance job readiness. The move is expected to address Meghalaya’s youth unemployment challenge and stimulate local economic activity.
The government plans to release detailed guidelines in the coming weeks, outlining eligibility criteria, funding mechanisms and monitoring procedures for the upcoming phase.
Stakeholders, including community leaders and NGOs, have welcomed the announcement, urging swift implementation to ensure that the promised opportunities reach the most vulnerable youth.
