The Meghalaya government announced that it will constitute and notify the sixth Pay Commission in the near future, according to the Chief Minister.

Shillong – The Chief Minister of Meghalaya confirmed that the state will soon form a committee to draft the sixth Pay Commission and will issue its recommendations shortly. The announcement was made during a press briefing where the CM emphasized the need to update salary structures for government employees across the state.
The new commission is expected to review existing pay scales, allowances and benefits, aligning them with inflation and comparable benchmarks set by the central government. Officials said the process will follow the standard procedure of constituting a panel of experts and representatives from various departments.
Stakeholders, including teachers, police personnel and other civil servants, have welcomed the move, anticipating a revision that could improve real wages. The government has not disclosed an exact timeline for the final notification, but indicated that the commission will be operational within weeks.
The decision comes as several Indian states are revisiting their pay frameworks ahead of the central government's upcoming seventh Pay Commission, making Meghalaya's prompt action noteworthy for its potential impact on state payroll budgeting.
