The Meghalaya government announced the establishment of additional customs facilities along its border with Bangladesh to facilitate greater bilateral trade.

Meghalaya's state administration has unveiled a proposal to set up new customs outposts at key points along its border with Bangladesh. The move aims to streamline clearance procedures, cut transit times and encourage more exporters and importers to use the cross‑border corridor.
The authorities say the facilities will be equipped with modern infrastructure and digital systems to reduce paperwork and curb illicit trade. By improving border efficiency, the state hopes to tap into the growing demand for Indian goods in Bangladesh and neighboring markets.
The initiative forms part of Meghalaya's broader strategy to diversify its economy and strengthen ties with neighboring countries. Officials will coordinate with the central government and Bangladeshi counterparts to finalize site selection and operational protocols.
