The Meghalaya government has unveiled a proposal to create a biotechnology park housing 100 biofoundries and to provide financial incentives for new biotech startups.
Shillong officials said the state will develop a dedicated biotechnology park that will accommodate up to one hundred biofoundries, aiming to position Meghalaya as a hub for advanced life‑science manufacturing. The proposal outlines tax breaks, subsidised land and seed funding for startups that set up operations within the park. State authorities expect the initiative to attract private investment, create skilled jobs and boost research collaborations with universities. The plan is currently under review by the state cabinet and will be presented to the central government for additional funding support. If approved, construction could begin early next year, with the first biofoundries expected to be operational within two years.
