The Meghalaya government has raised the cash prize for National Games gold medalists to Rs 2 lakh and announced a sports budget of Rs 840 crore, according to Sports Minister Shylla.
Meghalaya's sports ministry announced on Thursday that the cash reward for athletes winning gold at the National Games will now be Rs 2 lakh, up from the previous amount. The decision was disclosed by Sports Minister Shylla during a press briefing in Shillong.
The same announcement detailed a total sports allocation of Rs 840 crore for the current fiscal year, marking a significant increase in the state's investment in sports infrastructure and athlete development.
Officials said the enhanced prize and larger budget aim to motivate athletes, improve training facilities, and raise Meghalaya's competitiveness in national sporting events.
