The Meghalaya Grassroots Music Programme was highlighted in GQ's Heroes 2026 list, recognizing its role in nurturing local talent across the state.
The cultural initiative known as the Meghalaya Grassroots Music Programme has been featured in GQ's Heroes 2026 edition. The inclusion spotlights the programme's efforts to discover, train and showcase musicians from remote villages, preserving indigenous sounds while providing modern platforms for performance.
Organisers of the programme said the GQ recognition validates years of community‑driven work, including workshops, recording sessions and regional concerts that have reached thousands of young artists. The feature is expected to attract further sponsorship and broaden the programme's outreach beyond the Northeast.
GQ highlighted the project's impact on cultural tourism and its contribution to the broader Indian music ecosystem. Officials from Meghalaya's Department of Culture welcomed the acknowledgment, noting that such national exposure can inspire similar grassroots models in other states.
