The Meghalaya government has stated that the Shillong ropeway is safe, environmentally compliant and cleared by all relevant agencies following a walkout by the Joint Action Committee.

Meghalaya's state administration issued a formal assurance that the ropeway in Shillong meets all safety standards, adheres to green guidelines and has obtained clearance from every concerned regulatory body. The statement came after the Joint Action Committee (JAC) staged a walkout, protesting what it claimed were lapses in safety and environmental safeguards.

The ropeway, a key component of Shillong's tourism infrastructure, had been under scrutiny for several weeks. Government officials said that comprehensive inspections were carried out by the State Disaster Management Authority, the Forest Department and the Ministry of Tourism, each confirming the project's compliance.

In its release, the government emphasized that the ropeway has received all necessary certifications, including a green rating for its low‑impact design, and urged the public to resume using the service. It also called on the JAC to engage constructively with authorities to address any remaining concerns.

The assurance aims to restore confidence among locals and visitors, reinforcing the state's commitment to sustainable transport and tourism development.
