Meghalaya Completes Over 90% SIR Hearings, 19 Lakh Voters Await Final Roll

The State Revision of Electoral Rolls (SIR) in Meghalaya has cleared more than 90% of its hearings, with about 1.9 million voters now waiting for the final roll, the Chief Electoral Officer said.
The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Meghalaya announced that over 90% of the hearings under the State Revision of Electoral Rolls (SIR) have been concluded. The statement came after a series of public hearings aimed at updating the electoral register across the state.
The SIR exercise, mandated by the Election Commission of India, seeks to incorporate changes such as additions, deletions and corrections to the voter list. Approximately 19 lakh electors are now pending the issuance of the final revised roll, which will replace the existing register for upcoming polls.
Officials expect the final roll to be published within the next few weeks, allowing political parties and candidates to plan their campaigns based on an accurate voter base. The revised list is also expected to improve the credibility of the electoral process in the hilly state.
