Chief Minister Conrad Sangma inaugurated road works worth Rs 47.60 crore in East Garo Hills district, aiming to improve connectivity.
Meghalaya's chief minister, Conrad Sangma, formally opened a set of road construction projects in the East Garo Hills district, with a total outlay of Rs 47.60 crore. The inauguration took place at the project site, where officials and local dignitaries were present.
The funded works include the widening and resurfacing of key arterial routes that link remote villages to the district headquarters. By upgrading these corridors, the state aims to reduce travel time, facilitate the movement of goods, and enhance access to health and education services for residents.
During the ceremony, the chief minister highlighted that the projects are part of a broader infrastructure drive intended to spur economic growth in Meghalaya's hill regions. He emphasized that better roads will attract investment, create jobs, and improve the overall quality of life for the local population.
State officials indicated that construction is slated to begin immediately, with completion expected over the next two years, subject to weather conditions and terrain challenges typical of the region.
