Chief Minister Conrad Sangma laid the foundation stone for a new mini secretariat in Patharkhmah, aiming to bring administration closer to citizens.
Earlier today, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma officiated the laying of the foundation stone for a mini secretariat in the town of Patharkhmah. The ceremony was attended by senior state officials and local representatives, underscoring the government's focus on decentralising administrative services.
Speaking at the event, the chief minister emphasized that governance must be accessible to the people. He remarked that establishing a mini secretariat in Patharkhmah would reduce the distance citizens need to travel for routine government interactions, thereby making public services more responsive.
The new facility is expected to house key departmental offices, enabling quicker decision‑making and better coordination at the sub‑district level. Officials said the project aligns with Meghalaya's broader strategy to strengthen grassroots administration and improve service delivery across remote areas.
Construction of the mini secretariat is slated to begin immediately, with completion targeted within the next year. Once operational, it will serve as a focal point for local governance, health, education and revenue matters, bringing a range of services directly to the community.
