Chief Minister Conrad Sangma inaugurated the first government‑run degree college in Ri‑Bhoi district, a project funded under the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA).
The Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad Sangma, formally opened a new government degree college in the Ri‑Bhoi district. The ceremony marked the completion of a project financed through the central government's Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) scheme, aimed at expanding higher‑education infrastructure across the country.
The institution is the first government‑run degree college in Ri‑Bhoi, providing undergraduate courses in arts, science and commerce. Officials said the college will accommodate several hundred students from the district and surrounding tribal areas, reducing the need for them to travel to distant towns for higher studies.
State education officials highlighted that the college will help improve enrollment rates, especially among women and marginalized communities, and is expected to contribute to the socio‑economic development of the region. The inauguration underscored the state government's commitment to strengthening educational access in remote parts of Meghalaya.
