A new peace roadmap for Manipur has been unveiled, urging the cancellation of the existing SoO agreement, according to IS Chanam.
Manipur's ongoing unrest prompted IS Chanam to present a comprehensive peace roadmap aimed at restoring stability in the state. The proposal, released through the regional portal E-Pao.net, outlines a series of measures designed to address the root causes of the conflict and to bring together all stakeholders.
A central element of the roadmap is the recommendation to abrogate the existing Statement of Objectives (SoO) agreement, which many analysts argue has failed to deliver lasting peace. Chanam argues that a fresh framework, free from the constraints of the current pact, is essential for meaningful dialogue between the government, civil society and insurgent groups.
State officials have acknowledged receipt of the roadmap and indicated that they will examine its recommendations in detail. While no official response has been issued yet, the proposal is expected to be discussed in upcoming security and political meetings in Imphal.
If adopted, the roadmap could pave the way for renewed negotiations, confidence‑building measures and a phased withdrawal of armed forces from sensitive areas, marking a significant shift in the state's approach to conflict resolution.
