The Manipur Information Commission observed Right to Information Week, calling for greater public awareness of the RTI Act and its benefits.
The Manipur Information Commission officially observed Right to Information (RTI) Week this year, highlighting the role of the RTI Act in promoting transparency and accountability in governance. Over the week, the commission organised a series of awareness programmes, including seminars for civil society groups, distribution of informational pamphlets, and interactive sessions at district offices.
Officials of the commission stressed that many citizens remain unaware of how to file RTI applications or the protections the law offers. They urged people to make use of the Act to obtain information on public services, development projects and government decisions.
The commission also announced plans to expand its outreach in rural areas of Manipur, where literacy levels and access to information are lower. By increasing awareness, the body hopes to empower residents to hold authorities accountable and improve public service delivery.
The week-long observance concluded with a press briefing in which the commission reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the RTI framework and encouraging active citizen participation in governance.
