The Manipur government has proposed a financial incentive of Rs 10,000 for owners of the indigenous Manipuri Pony to support the preservation of the breed.

The Department of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Co-operatives in Manipur has put forward a proposal to provide a direct financial incentive to owners of the Manipuri Pony. The initiative aims to encourage the rearing and preservation of this indigenous equine breed, which is native to the state.

Under the proposed scheme, eligible owners would receive a sum of Rs 10,000. The move is intended to address the declining population of the pony and to incentivize local farmers and breeders to continue caring for the animals. The proposal is currently under review by the relevant authorities.

The Manipuri Pony is a distinct breed known for its hardiness and adaptability to the hilly terrain of the Northeast. Government officials have emphasized that supporting the breed is crucial for maintaining the region's biological diversity and agricultural heritage. The final implementation details and eligibility criteria are expected to be finalized following the approval of the proposal.
