Security forces in Manipur have launched a coordinated operation using snifier dogs, aerial drones and helicopters to curb insurgent activity.
Security agencies in Manipur announced the commencement of a joint operation that integrates sniffer dogs, unmanned aerial drones and helicopter patrols. The move aims to strengthen surveillance and rapid response capabilities in districts that have witnessed recurring insurgent incidents.
The operation is being coordinated by the state police, the Assam Rifles and the Indian Army's Eastern Command. Each unit contributes its specialty: canine teams for ground searches, drones for real‑time aerial imaging, and helicopters for quick troop deployment and logistical support.
Officials said the combined use of these assets is expected to improve detection of illegal arms, contraband and hideouts, thereby curbing violence and restoring normalcy for civilians. The deployment will continue for the foreseeable future, with periodic assessments to gauge effectiveness.
