Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh announced plans to set up a committee that will include representatives from all 36 recognised communities in Manipur.
Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh said he will create a new committee that brings together representatives from each of the state’s 36 recognised communities. The proposal was disclosed during a press briefing in Imphal, where the CM emphasized the need for an inclusive platform to address community concerns.
The envisaged body will comprise members drawn from all ethnic and tribal groups, aiming to ease long‑standing tensions and ensure balanced development across the hill and valley regions. Officials indicated that the committee will operate under the CM’s supervision and will be tasked with advising on policy matters affecting the diverse populace.
The announcement arrives as Manipur continues to grapple with demands for greater political representation and equitable resource allocation. Singh assured that the committee will be constituted shortly and will serve as a consultative mechanism to foster harmony and collaborative governance.
