Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh met Union Minister Nitin Gadkari to request the launch of new highway and elevated road projects in the state.
Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh held a meeting with Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari to discuss the state's infrastructure needs. The discussion focused on securing central support for new highway corridors and elevated road structures that would improve connectivity across the hilly terrain of the state. Singh highlighted that better road links are essential for boosting trade, tourism and reducing travel time for residents.
The chief minister outlined specific corridors that require immediate attention, including a north‑south highway stretch and flyover projects in congested urban centres. He argued that these projects would not only ease traffic bottlenecks but also generate employment and attract private investment in the region.
Gadkari acknowledged the proposals and indicated that the Ministry would examine the feasibility and funding options. He assured that the central government remains committed to enhancing road infrastructure in the Northeast and promised to forward the request to the relevant planning bodies for swift action.
