The District Collector of Mangan has ordered local authorities to stop sewage discharge into the jhoras within seven days or face closure of the affected areas.

District Collector S. K. Sharma of Mangan issued a notice on Tuesday demanding that all local bodies cease discharging sewage into the jhoras within seven days.

Jhoras, the shallow water bodies that collect rainwater in the hills, are crucial for maintaining the region’s fragile ecosystem. The DC warned that continued pollution could lead to health hazards and ecological damage.

If the directive is not followed, the collector has said that authorities will shut down the affected jhoras and may impose penalties on the responsible parties.

The notice has prompted local ward councils to convene emergency meetings, while environmental groups have urged swift compliance to protect the area’s biodiversity.
