Man Tricks Owner, Mortgages Flat, Assaults Victim and Steals ₹7 Lakh via UPI in Mohali

Police in Mohali have arrested a suspect who duped a flat owner, forced a mortgage, assaulted him and siphoned ₹7 lakh through UPI.
Police in Mohali disclosed that a man approached a flat owner under the pretext of a business discussion, persuaded him to register a mortgage on the property and later used the agreement to extort money.
The victim was reportedly assaulted after refusing to comply, and the perpetrator transferred the illicit amount of ₹7 lakh to his own UPI account, effectively stealing the funds.
Investigators recovered the UPI transaction details, traced the suspect’s bank accounts and have filed a charge sheet under fraud, extortion and assault statutes. The police have urged residents to verify any mortgage or financial transaction and to report suspicious demands immediately.
