A resident of Moga scaled a municipal water tank after his PM Awas Yojana payment was delayed; officials intervened and he descended safely after about an hour.
Moga, Punjab – A local man, aggrieved by the non‑receipt of his scheduled instalment under the Prime Minister's Awas Yojana, climbed onto a public water tank on the outskirts of the city on Wednesday. The protest was aimed at drawing attention to the delay in disbursement of the housing‑scheme funds.
Police and municipal officials arrived promptly after the incident was reported. They spent close to an hour attempting to persuade the protester to come down, using verbal appeals and assurances of assistance.
The individual, identified as Gurlaabh Singh, eventually descended from the tank without injury. Authorities are reviewing the grievance and have promised to expedite the pending payment, while also warning against such dangerous forms of protest in the future.
