A male wild elephant wearing radio collar No. 3 was rescued in Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve after the collar caused a neck wound, which has been dressed and the animal placed under temporary monitoring in the Kallavah range.
More than 80 forest officials and staff assembled at the rescue site in Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve to intervene when a male wild elephant fitted with radio collar number‑3 suffered a cut on its neck due to the collar tightening. The team safely secured the animal and provided immediate medical attention.
Veterinarians cleaned the wound and applied a dressing to prevent infection, ensuring the elephant’s condition stabilised before it was moved. The collar, used for tracking, was inspected and readjusted to avoid further injury.
The rescued elephant has now been transferred to a temporary monitoring zone within the Kallavah range, where its health and behaviour will be closely observed by wildlife experts.
Authorities emphasized that regular checks of tracking devices are essential to safeguard the well‑being of large mammals in the reserve.
The incident underscores the coordinated effort of forest personnel in handling wildlife emergencies and maintaining the safety of both animals and forest staff.
