The Maharashtra government has requested a change to Form 6, the application used for re‑enlisting voters, so that those removed from the electoral roll in the State Information Register (SIR) can apply again.
The Maharashtra government has formally asked the Election Commission to amend Form 6, the application used by voters to re‑enlist after removal from the electoral roll. The request comes after a number of voters were struck from the State Information Register (SIR) following discrepancies in their details.
SIR is the database that records voter information and is used to identify and remove entries that are found to be duplicate, outdated or otherwise invalid. Those removed under SIR are required to submit a new Form 6 to regain voting rights.
The proposed change would streamline the process, allowing voters who have been removed to apply for re‑enlistment without having to re‑submit all original documents. The government says the revision will reduce administrative delays and help more citizens exercise their right to vote.
The Election Commission is reviewing the request and is expected to issue a revised form within the next few weeks, after which affected voters can file their applications and resume voting in upcoming elections.
