A JCB construction machine manufactured in Maharashtra has become the inaugural Indian export under the newly‑signed India‑New Zealand trade agreement, signalling a boost for bilateral trade.

The construction equipment maker JCB has shipped a machine built in Maharashtra to New Zealand, becoming the first Indian product exported under the recently ratified India‑New Zealand Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). The export underscores the CEPA's aim to diversify trade flows and open new markets for Indian manufacturing.

Officials from the Ministry of Commerce confirmed that the deal was cleared under the agreement's preferential tariff provisions, allowing the machine to enter New Zealand with reduced duties. The shipment is expected to arrive at the Port of Auckland within the next two weeks.

Industry analysts view the move as a benchmark for other Indian manufacturers seeking to leverage the CEPA framework, which covers sectors ranging from agriculture to high‑tech equipment. The JCB export is also seen as a confidence boost for Maharashtra's industrial base, which has been expanding its export footprint in recent years.

The Indian government has highlighted the export as a case study in its quarterly trade report, noting that such transactions could help achieve the target of a 30‑percent increase in bilateral trade by 2030.
