The Maharashtra government has announced strict deadlines for submitting the 2027-28 budget estimates and will now require all submissions to be made electronically.

On Monday, the Maharashtra government announced that the 2027-28 budget estimates must be submitted by specific dates, with the final deadline set for 15 March 2024. The Finance Department will review all estimates before the state assembly’s budget session in May. All submissions will now be required to be filed electronically through the state’s online portal, replacing the previous paper‑based system.

The new schedule sets a 30‑day window for departments to submit their estimates, with interim reviews on 30 January and 15 February. Departments that miss the deadlines may face penalties or have their estimates excluded from the budget draft.

The digital requirement will be enforced by the Department of Revenue and Taxation, which will provide training and support for officials. Officials will need to upload PDF or Excel files that meet the prescribed format.

The government said the changes will be implemented from the next fiscal year and will be monitored by an independent audit committee.
