The Governor of Maharashtra has advised Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to set up a probe committee, chaired by a retired High Court judge, to examine matters concerning the Maharashtra Public Service Commission.

The Governor of Maharashtra has formally recommended to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis that a special committee be constituted to investigate concerns surrounding the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC). The suggested panel is to be headed by a retired judge of the High Court, ensuring an independent and legally seasoned oversight.

The recommendation comes amid growing scrutiny over the MPSC's recruitment processes, with allegations of procedural lapses and possible irregularities prompting calls for a transparent inquiry. By proposing a retired judicial officer to lead the probe, the Governor aims to lend credibility and impartiality to the investigation.

State officials have indicated that the committee, once approved, will examine all relevant documents, interview key personnel and submit a detailed report with findings and recommendations. The move is expected to address public concerns and restore confidence in the state's civil services selection mechanism.

No timeline has been announced for the formation of the committee, and the Governor’s suggestion awaits formal acceptance by the Chief Minister’s office.
