Maharashtra FDA steps up inspections, targets eateries in Goregaon, Kurla, Chembur bakeries

Maharashtra's Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has stepped up its inspection drive in Mumbai, targeting food outlets in three key localities. Officials carried out surprise checks at a number of restaurants in Goregaon and Kurla as well as bakeries in Chembur, citing concerns over hygiene and compliance with food safety norms.
The inspections uncovered several violations, prompting the FDA to issue notices, demand corrective action and, where necessary, temporarily suspend operations. Business owners were advised to rectify issues such as inadequate sanitation, improper storage of raw materials and lapses in temperature control.
The agency emphasized that the intensified scrutiny is part of its broader mandate to safeguard public health and ensure that food sold to consumers meets statutory standards. It warned that further non‑compliance will attract stricter penalties.
Authorities said the crackdown will continue across the city, with periodic follow‑up visits planned to monitor corrective measures and prevent recurrence of infractions.
