The Maharashtra Food Drug Administration seized 74,600 kg of edible oil, valued at about Rs 1.28 crore, during a series of festive‑season inspections.

Maharashtra's Food Drug Administration (FDA) conducted coordinated raids across the state as part of its pre‑festive crackdown on illegal food supplies. Inspectors uncovered 74,600 kg of edible oil that had not undergone proper regulatory approval, estimating its market value at roughly Rs 1.28 crore.

The seized stock is believed to have been intended for distribution during the upcoming festive period, when demand for cooking oil spikes. Authorities said the oil was likely sourced from unlicensed manufacturers or smuggled without adhering to quality standards.

The FDA has lodged the confiscated oil with the state’s evidence department and will pursue legal action against the parties involved. Officials emphasized that such enforcement actions aim to protect consumers from sub‑standard or adulterated products, especially during high‑consumption festivals.

The raid underscores the regulator’s heightened vigilance ahead of major celebrations, signalling that similar operations may continue if non‑compliant food items are detected.
