The state food and drug authority carried out 2,902 inspections of pharmacies and drug outlets across Maharashtra between June and August, intensifying its crackdown on substandard medicines.
The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) stepped up its regulatory drive by inspecting nearly three thousand drug‑related establishments over a three‑month period. Between June and August, FDA teams visited pharmacies, wholesale drug stores and manufacturing units across the state, completing a total of 2,902 inspections.
Officials said the sweep aimed to identify violations such as sale of substandard or unregistered medicines, improper storage conditions and non‑compliance with labeling norms. Where breaches were found, the agency issued warnings, ordered corrective action or, in serious cases, seized the offending stock.
The intensive audit reflects the state government's commitment to safeguard public health and curb the circulation of counterfeit drugs, a persistent challenge in India's pharmaceutical market.
