Maharashtra Enables Offline Crop Registration as Digital Portal Faces Glitches

The state government has permitted farmers to register their crops offline after technical issues disrupted the online portal.
The Maharashtra government announced that farmers can now complete crop registration through offline channels after the state’s digital portal experienced repeated glitches. The decision, issued by the Department of Agriculture, aims to prevent delays in subsidy disbursement and compliance reporting for the upcoming sowing season.
Officials said the online system, which was launched to streamline data collection, suffered connectivity failures and data‑entry errors that left many farmers unable to submit their details on time. As a result, the department received numerous complaints from rural constituencies across the state.
Under the new arrangement, farmers may approach designated district agricultural offices, cooperative societies or authorized extension officers to file their crop details on paper forms. These records will be digitised later and uploaded to the central database once the portal is stabilised.
State Agriculture Minister Dadaji Bhuse emphasized that the offline provision is a temporary measure and urged farmers to retain copies of submitted documents. The department also pledged to resolve the technical issues within the next two weeks to restore full online functionality.
The move is expected to safeguard timely access to government schemes such as the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana and input subsidies, which depend on accurate crop registration data.
