On Aja Ekadashi, the Mahakal shrine in Ujjain was ceremonially decorated, drawing devotees for special prayers.
Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh – The sacred Mahakal shrine observed Aja Ekadashi on Saturday with an elaborate divine adornment. The festival, regarded as a fasting day dedicated to Lord Shiva, saw temple priests draping the deity in fresh silk garments, gold ornaments and fragrant flowers.
The ritual began with a traditional Ganga aarti, followed by the priestly team applying sacred ash and sandalwood paste before placing the new attire. Offerings of fruits, milk and incense were presented, and a special bhog was prepared for the deity.
Thousands of devotees gathered in the temple courtyard, chanting hymns and participating in the aarti. Temple officials reported a smooth flow of crowds, attributing the orderly conduct to enhanced security and crowd‑management measures.
