The Madhya Pradesh government approved a toll hike of 6‑7% on the Bhopal bypass, with rates to be adjusted each year based on the wholesale price index until 2031.
The Madhya Pradesh government has authorized an increase in toll charges on the Bhopal bypass, with the new rates ranging between 6% and 7% higher than the existing ones. The decision, issued by the state’s road development authority, also stipulates that tolls will be revised annually in line with movements in the wholesale price index (WPI). This mechanism is intended to keep revenue aligned with inflation and fund ongoing maintenance of the bypass. The revised tariff structure is set to remain in force until 2031, providing a long‑term financing framework for the road. Regular commuters and commercial vehicle operators are likely to face higher operating expenses, a point highlighted by transport associations, while officials maintain that the adjustment is essential for preserving road quality and safety.
