The Madhya Pradesh government has fixed 11 October as the last day for teachers to file their TET applications, after receiving about 25,000 submissions by 5 October, while roughly 150,000 teachers are expected to appear for the test.
The state education department of Madhya Pradesh announced that 11 October will be the cut‑off date for submitting applications for the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET). This deadline follows a series of extensions, marking the third time the date has been pushed forward to accommodate the large pool of prospective candidates.
As of 5 October, the department recorded roughly 25,000 applications, a figure that reflects only a fraction of the estimated 150,000 teachers who are eligible and likely to sit for the exam. Officials have expressed concern over the volume of potential candidates and the need to ensure smooth processing of applications before the final deadline.
The TET is a prerequisite for teachers seeking permanent positions in government schools across the state. The extended timeline aims to give more educators the opportunity to apply, while the department prepares for the logistical challenges of conducting the test for a sizable cohort.
Stakeholders, including teacher unions, have been monitoring the situation closely, urging the authorities to maintain transparency and fairness in the selection process. The education department has pledged to release further details on exam dates and centres in the coming weeks.
