The state will release two cheetahs today at the newly prepared third release site in Veerangana Durgawati Tiger Reserve, aiming to boost wildlife tourism in Bundelkhand.

Madhya Pradesh has completed preparations for its third cheetah release location, following the earlier sites at Kuno and Gandhi Sagar. The new venue, Veerangana Durgawati Tiger Reserve in the Bundelkhand region, will see two cheetahs released under the supervision of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav today.

The release is part of the state government's broader plan to reintroduce the endangered species and develop wildlife tourism in the area. Officials expect the presence of cheetahs to attract nature enthusiasts and generate economic benefits for local communities.

Conservation experts have highlighted that the reserve offers suitable habitat and prey density, essential for the long‑term survival of the felines. The move also aligns with national efforts to increase the wild cheetah population, which currently numbers only a few dozen in India.

The two cheetahs, sourced from breeding programs, will be monitored using GPS collars to track their movements and health. Their adaptation will be closely observed over the coming months to assess the success of the reintroduction initiative.

If the project proves successful, Madhya Pradesh plans to continue expanding its cheetah conservation program, positioning the state as a key hub for wildlife tourism in central India.
